Educational Spaces for Rocky Vista University

Eco-friendly furnishings provide a safe environment for students and staff

Louisville, Colo. — Citron WorkSpaces, Colorado’s environmentally focused office furniture partner, is pleased to announce the completed design and installation of an innovative educational environment at Rocky Vista University (RVU) in Parker, Colorado (www.rockyvistauniversity.org). Citron’s work encompassed much of the new building’s 145,000 square feet of space — including the executive suite, faculty offices, staff areas, classrooms, library, gathering areas and seminar rooms.

Azul Holdings, LLC built and now manages the building, which was designed by OZ Architecture (www.ozarchitecture.com) and built by Shaw Construction (www.shawconstruction.net). The facility will be used to educate future osteopathic physicians and other professionals in related health care disciplines. RVU opened its doors in August for the inaugural class of students entering the University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine, which is the first osteopathic, and only the second college of medicine in the state of Colorado and the region.

Citron WorkSpaces President Kathey Pear said, “This project was of particular interest for us, because it involved creating healthy, environmentally friendly educational spaces specifically for students who will then go on to work in the field of holistic healthcare. It was exciting for us to be a part of that, working alongside both Azul Holdings and Rocky Vista University to design and complete this space.”

Rocky Vista University’s Vice President of University Relations, Sherri Martin, said, “We interviewed a number of furniture wholesalers and retailers. Citron came out on top because of the quality of the products they offered, their philosophy of using safe, eco-friendly furnishings, and their cost-effective price point.” Martin noted that she also appreciated the Citron team’s ability and willingness to collaborate with and assist the university as needed, from start to finish. “We’ve been very pleased with the entire process of working with the Citron team — and the faculty loves all the selections that were made.”

Chuck Flood, project manager and owner representative for Azul Holdings, LLC, agreed, noting that “Citron did a great job!”

Citron supplied furniture from Indiana Desk (www.indianafurniture.com) for the school’s executive suites, Smith Systems (www.smithsystem.com) furniture for the school’s library, and lounge seating from OFS Furniture (www.ofs.com). Furniture used throughout the rest of the facility was designed and manufactured by Teknion (www.teknion.com), a brand that Citron uses in many of its workspaces. Chairs were manufactured by SitOnIt Seating (www.sitonit.net).

Both Teknion and SitOnIt boast GREENGUARD®-certified manufacturing processes (www.greenguard.org), to provide improved indoor air quality. “Our close partnership with these key manufacturers was instrumental in earning the opportunity to work with the university,” Pear noted. “These furnishings will help ensure a safe environment for educators and students alike, for years to come.”

This first RVU building is a three-story structure, which will be followed by two more phases of construction at the Parker, Colorado campus.
