The Mystery Of Braco

He hasn’t granted an interview, or spoken in public in any way, since 2002.  He doesn’t advertise or promote himself, or even call himself a “healer.”  He underwent no formal training, nor received any official “transmission” of the gift that he shares.  And yet, for the past fifteen years, tens and now hundreds of thousands of people every year, in Europe and the Balkans, make the journey to be in his silent presence. This past autumn he was granted an Extraordinary Ability Visa -- usually reserved for Nobel laureates and the like -- opening the way for him to enter the United States freely, to be of service here also. Who is this person?

His birth name is Josip Grbavac, though the 43-year-old Croatian has for years been known simply as Braco -- meaning “Little Brother” or “Great Brother.”  He was trained as an economist, and had a successful business when, in his mid-twenties, he crossed paths with a Serbian prophet/mystic-healer named Ivica, who quickly became his friend and mentor, and the new focus of his life.  Some fifteen months later, when the two of them were vacationing in South Africa, a rouge wave took them both under.  Braco survived the ordeal, but Ivica did not.

Immediately following Ivica’s tragic death, Braco began to demonstrate similar healing abilities, which over the years evolved into the simple “gazing” method that he now employs: five to eight minute sessions during which he simply looks out over those present -- often hundreds or even thousands at once. In response to receiving the gift of Braco’s energy -- or the power that somehow flows through Braco -- countless people have experienced medically documented and often miraculous physical and psychological healing.  Even more report feelings of enhanced well-being, joy and delight, and a sense of reconnecting with their life-purpose. All from the gaze of a man who doesn’t charge a cent for his service. What’s going on here?

Braco himself refuses to speculate.  He considers what he does a gift that was  bestowed upon him, which he is now simply sharing with others.  Scientist and parapsychologist Drago Plecko has authored a book (The Mystery Called Braco, currently available in Croatian and German only) which aims to explain the phenomenon in scientific terms:  as a transfer of quantum information; or an instance of the Maharishi Effect; or something akin to Hindu shaktipat -- to name just a few of the theories proposed.

Whatever the explanation, Braco’s gaze seems, with striking consistency, to have hugely beneficial effects on those who receive it. Before he stopped speaking in public, he recorded an eight-minute segment -- known now simply as “The Voice” -- in which he offers gently uplifting advice, including an encouragement to allow his loving gaze to ignite the “sparks” within us -- so that what is true and beautiful and deeply satisfying might emerge more fully into our life-experience.  Sounds good to me!
