We live in a world of abundance, yet millions of children in our world suffer from neglect, abuse, and a lack of food and health care. Among all children, the children of Africa suffer most.  There are an estimated 2 million orphans in Uganda, 880,000 of them orphaned by AIDS. Many also are orphaned by years of civil war in the African country.

The United Children's Fund is committed to improving the lives of the poorest of the poor, the marginalized and the oppressed. Formed in 1995, UCF is helping to build better communities through compassion, love, and assistance. According to Co-Founder Samm Donelson, UCF has helped individuals and families to empower themselves to become self-sufficient by providing education, health care, and financial assistance.  “We are making a real difference in this part of the world and will achieve even greater things with continued support” said Donelson, who is also an accomplished baritone and sings in the music ministry at Nativity of Our Lord Church in Broomfield.

On Saturday evening March 13th, Donelson will lead the concert, “We Are the World, A Celebration of Life and Song.  This concert will bring aid to children in Uganda, East Africa by raising awareness and much needed financial support to continue UCF’s mission.  “We are proud to be holding our 5th annual concert at Nativity to celebrate what we began so many years ago”, Donelson said.

Donelson will be joined by the Nativity Music Ministry, several accomplished instrumentalists, and very special guests, the Colorado Children’s Chorale.  “We are really excited about this year’s concert.  We have so many talented musicians joining us”, said Donelson.  “It’s an opportunity to acknowledge our many blessings and to enjoy inspired music.  It is our hope that many will join us to celebrate children and all that is possible in this world when we commit ourselves to a worthy cause.”

The concert is at 7:00 PM at Nativity, 900 W. Midway Blvd., and is free to the public.  Attendees can make donations to the United Children's Fund, which helps build schools in rural Uganda.
