Funding provided to assist with financial literacy

Boulder Housing Partners Foundation
(BHPF) is pleased to report that it has been awarded a $2000 challenge grant by the Elevations Credit Union Community Relations Committee
to encourage language education and financial literacy with Boulder Housing Partner’s (BHP) residents.

Funds from the challenge grant will be used to purchase English as a Second Language (ESL) textbooks for English classes conducted in partnership with Intercambio de Communidades at BHP’s public housing family sites.  The ESL classes will also help to link residents to other educational services throughout the County and enhance the lives and augment the sense of community for public housing families.

Half of the families living in BHP’s public housing report Spanish to be their primary language.  English language and financial literacy are essential to these families’ goal of becoming self-sufficient. The positive response from BHP residents to this program has been overwhelming.

“We appreciate the strong support Elevations Credit Union provides our community,” said BHP Executive Director Betsey Martens.  “Partnerships like these help make our community culturally rich, diverse and economically strong.  This funding helps residents achieve their full potential.”

“Supporting economic self-sufficiency through financial literacy is an Elevations Credit Union objective.  Working with the Boulder Housing Partners Foundation allows us to meet important community needs and educate local consumers,” said Dennis Paul, Vice President of Business and Community Development.

The mission of the Boulder Housing Partners Foundation is to support resident services programming and help BHP residents pursue successful, productive and dignified lives by providing connections to supportive, life-enriching, and community building services. BHP provides housing to more than 1,700 families whose average annual income is less than $11,200, the majority of whom are elderly, disabled, newly immigrated or displaced in some way.  Their housing needs are not only economic. Without the strong service-connection component provided by the resident services program at BHP, many residents could be at risk of eviction, and possibly homelessness.

Boulder Housing Partners is the housing authority serving the city of Boulder.  BHP meets the housing needs of the community by providing four critical housing options: Boulder Affordable Rentals; Public Housing Units; Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers; and Market-Rate Rental Units.  By providing quality, affordable housing that incorporates a sense of community strength and spirit, BHP supports residents' efforts to realize success in their lives and in the community.  For information about help with housing needs, the general public can contact BHP at 720-564-4610.
