Lafayette, Colorado – WOW! Children’s Museum (World of Wonder) today announced that the Museum is proudly hosting its first annual Girls in Science Night on Friday, February 8. Girls in the community ages 3-8 years are invited to explore how to be a scientist both as a career and in everyday life. Through hands-on STEAM focused activities, girls and their parents will have the opportunity to learn about different scientific fields as well as engage with local female scientists.

Event: Girls in Science Night

Date: Friday, February 8, 2019

Time: 5:30pm-7:30pm

Location: WOW! Children’s Museum, 110 N. Harrison Ave, Lafayette

Featured guests and activities include:

  • “Seeing Beyond the Naked Eye” – using microscopes, telescopes, and an infrared camera with STROBE
  • Solar car demonstration and activities with Xcel Energy
  • “Sweet Sensations” - the science and genetics of taste with the Denver Museum of Nature & Science
  • Atmospheric researchers, geologists, and computer programmers will join us too!

All event participants are invited to take part in a community science project by growing their own Colorado wildflowers. Those who participate in the community science project will be welcomed back for a celebratory party at the Museum in March to report on their science project results.

“We encourage and support girls to achieve their full potential as science-literate adults.  We are looking forward to an evening of exploration, critical thinking, and collaboration with many of our local female scientists,” said Jennifer Hinderliter, Executive Director.

Girls in Science Night has been made possible through the generous support of our community.  Thank you to event sponsors: STROBE Science and Technology Center, Xcel Energy Colorado, Namaste Foundation, Spire, Denver Museum of Nature & Science, SCL Health Good Samaritan, and Donna Charlevoix and Glen Romine.

Thank you to event volunteers from the Flatirons Rotary Club of Boulder and the National Charity League.
