Holiday Food and Wine Dinner Raises Money for Hearing and Speech Impaired

Boulder, CO—November 9th, the Boulder-Area Delta Zeta Alumnae chapter hosted their first Holiday Food and Wine Pairing dinner to raise money for Delta Zeta’s national philanthropies. The Delta Zeta national philanthropies include: Starkey Hearing Foundation, Gallaudet University, Sound Beginnings, House Ear Institute and The Painted Turtle Camp.

The event, chaired by alum Joan Zach and assisted by Stacie Ward, was held at Legacy Ridge Golf Club Grill in Westminster. Dinner was a five-course holiday themed meal paired with twelve wines selected by Total Beverage-Thornton staff sommelier, Karen Saenz. The dinner was attended by 56 sorority sisters, family and friends. Festive gift baskets and wine purchases were available at the event, which contributed to additional funds for the chapter’s philanthropies. “The program was very informational. The menu and food was outstanding!” commented alumnae chapter President, Kathleen Jefferies.

Delta Zeta’s national philanthropic commitment is focused on supporting the hearing and speech impaired. Delta Zeta sorority has partnered with Gallaudet University, in Washington, D.C., since 1954. Gallaudet University is the world’s only undergraduate program made available to the hearing impaired. Through the years Delta Zeta also became involved with: the House Ear Institute, Sound Beginnings to promote early detection, and the Starkey Hearing Foundation. In 2006 the sorority adopted the Painted Turtle children’s camp as a national philanthropy. The Painted Turtle is one of the Hole in the Wall camps created by actor and philanthropist, Paul Newman. The specialty camp is designed for children with chronic and life-threatening illnesses. Nation-wide, Delta Zeta supports the camp through monetary donations and volunteering time.

Over $300 was raised through the dinner and raffle to support these organizations.
