"It can be pretty lonely just sitting there, looking at your four walls" said Richard Tate, "Its just nice to be out with people and doing interesting things". Richard Tate is one of the many seniors who benefit from Circle of Care, a non-profit organization which seeks to wipe out the social isolation that afflicts many elders. Joan Raderman, the organization's founder said, "If we're lucky enough to get older, we're going to have these needs. Circle of Care not only rallies the support of cultural and academic organizations, but it also provides companions...and transportation, so you have a whole package [that helps] eliminate every reason that keeps you socially isolated." Though not openly recognized, social isolation is a problem which afflicts countless seniors in our culture. Through providing transportation to various concerts, films, operas, ballets, and other events, Circle of Care gives seniors a sense of community and family.
An upcoming event that Circle of Care is offering for seniors is the Boulder International Film Festival. Circle of Care welcomes The Boulder International Film Festival as a new community partner, who is generously contributing complimentary tickets to two of their films, which are available to low to moderate income seniors through Circle of Care. "Gerrison Keillor: The Man on the Radio in the Red Shoes" will be shown on Friday, February 13th at 7:00pm, and the second film "American Harmony" will be shows on Saturday February 14th at 6:45pm. Both will be shown at Boulder High School.
Please contact Circle of Care (303) 449-8884 if you are an older adult who is on fixed or low income or know of one who would be interested in attending these exciting events, as well as the many other events we offer year round!
