Five figure skaters, who train at the Ice Centre at the Promenade in Westminster, have qualified to compete at the US Figure Skating Midwestern Sectional Championships in Wichita, KS November 18-21. These skaters qualified to advance based on their finish at the US Figure Skating Southwestern Regional Championships last month in Dallas, TX.
The medalists in Midwestern Sectional Championships will qualify to compete at the US Figure Skating National championships which will be held in Spokane, WA from January 14-24, 2010. Skater competing at the National Championships may qualify to represent the United States in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver in February.
Katy Jo West, a senior at Ralston Valley High School, and Calli Sheehan, a senior at Monarch High School, qualified for the Senior Ladies Division. Katy Jo won the Freeskate portion of the competition and Callie was the fourth place medalist. In the Junior division Morgan Bell, a freshman at Front Range Community College, brought home the forth place medal on the Ladies side and Christopher Darling was the second place finisher for the Men. Sebastian Payannet, a sophomore at Monarch High School, will compete in the Novice Men’s division at Sectionals.
These five skaters train five to six days a week at the Ice Centre. The lead coach for all five skaters is Cindy Sullivan, the Director of Figure Skating at the Ice Centre at the Promenade. Ms. Sullivan leads the figure skating program as well as the learn to skate lessons at the Ice Centre. She coaches and has coached numerous skaters, including National and International competitors.
The Rocky Mountain Figure Skating Club is the US Figure Skating home club at the Ice Centre at the Promenade. For over 30 years the club has supported, promoted and assisted skaters, from beginners to international competitors. The club congratulates these skaters on their hard work, dedication and commitment.
