Veterinarian Lee Woods has treated pets poisoned by prescription drugs, rat poison and a compost pile during the past month. So Woods and his staff at Broadway Animal Hospital in Boulder created a brief poison prevention video to reach as many pet owners as possible and educate them about the dangers of common household items. Woods is promoting the video as part of this year’s Pet Poison Prevention Week, March 16 – 20.“Pet Poison Prevention Week allows us to focus on educating and empowering our community so that beloved pets don’t end up in our hospital for emergency poisoning treatments,” Woods says. The three-minute video can be seen on the Broadway Animal Hospital Web site at www.broadwayanimal.com and also on Dr. Woods’ MySpace and YouTube pages.The ASPCA Poison Control Center reports thousands of animal deaths from household poisons each year. “Chocolate and rodent bait are the two most common poisoning agents we see at our animal hospital, Woods says. “We want all Boulder pet owners to watch the pet poison prevention video for tips to create the safest environment possible for their pets.”Broadway Animal Hospital has created a room-by-room household poison prevention checklist.
