Longmont Dairy Farm, a family owned milk delivery business based in Longmont, celebrated the company’s 50th anniversary with over 200 guests on Saturday, June 6, 2015, at the Colorado National Speedway. Attendees included employees, their families and long-time vendors who traveled from as far as Denver, Colorado Springs and Southern California to celebrate and to enjoy the fun environment.

“The weather cooperated and the event turned out to be a great success,” said Katie Herrmann, co-owner. “Employees and vendors seemed to enjoy the noise and excitement of the night and we were thankful to spend a fun evening with so many people that helped us get to this point.”

Guests watching the evening races even got a chance to see dairy employees enter the drive-your-own-car amateur race. Among the race participants was David Boyd.

“My dad gave into crowd demand and got onto the track in a Pontiac Grand Am,” stated Dan Boyd. “He did pretty well racing with some of our other employees and made it to the semifinals. But he was pretty nervous about the car.”

Employees with over 10 years of service were recognized and guests enjoyed a meal catered by Famous Dave’s BBQ and specially decorated cupcakes, provided by Jeaninne Minch.

Longmont Dairy Farm was founded in 1965 by Jim Boyd and Reese Boatman. The business started with a small processing plant behind the Boyd’s home on Coffman Street, a small dairy herd and an old milk truck.

When Boyd and Boatman retired in 1988, the family business was passed on to David and Susan Boyd, who purchased a new herd of Holstein dairy cows, reorganizing as Longmont Dairy Farm, Inc. During the next 27 years, Longmont Dairy continued to grow the company by expanding the plant, adapting to the technological advances with the company website and expanding their product inventory and customer delivery area which now covers most of the suburban neighborhoods surrounding metropolitan Denver.

In January 2015, Katie Herrmann and her brother Dan Boyd became co-owners of the dairy after working five years in each part of the business. They are now the third generation in the family business.

Longmont Dairy Farm is one of just a few remaining dairies that still have their own cows and deliver directly to customers. They deliver in reusable glass bottles and also sell a variety of dairy products, juice and snacks with deliveries provided weekly to customers’ doorsteps.
