Longmont Dairy’s “Milk Caps for Mooola” Hits Milestone

Longmont Dairy announced that its popular “Milk Caps for Mooola” program has reached a major new milestone: 17 million milk caps collected since the program launched in 2012. The company held an event on Feb. 26, to celebrate the winning school, Copper Mesa Elementary, in Highlands Ranch. The achievement represents nearly $850,000 donated to local schools by the family-owned dairy company.

Students, families, neighbors and educators are encouraged to collect caps from all Longmont Dairy bottles, including milk, cold brew, lemonade, orange juice and eggnog bottles. Schools receive five cents per cap, which they may use to benefit their students. Many schools use their “Mooola” for field trips, sports or playground equipment, art supplies, tablets and computers.

“Our school has participated in the ‘Milk Caps for Mooola’ program since 2013, and we’re so grateful for this donation from Longmont Dairy,” shared Cassie George, president of Copper Mesa Elementary’s PTO. "Our students and their families take such pride in collecting milk caps to give back to our school, and we look forward to using this donation to fund special teacher projects.”

Longmont Dairy started the Milk Caps for Mooola program in November 2012 to help local schools earn much-needed extra funding for supplies, programs and activities, as well as teach students about recycling and sustainability. Today, more than 400 schools participate across the Front Range and donate around 40,000 caps per week during the school year.

“Milk Caps for Mooola has always been about supporting schools in our community and spreading the message of sustainability, which aligns with our company’s values," said Katie Copeland, co-owner of Longmont Dairy. “This is a special milestone, and we’re proud to see those small actions add up to a big impact for local classrooms.”

Known for its commitment to freshness and sustainability, Longmont Dairy has served Front Range communities for more than 60 years as a three-generation, family-owned business. Milk from the dairy’s 600 cows is delivered alongside an expanded selection of products, including cold brew coffee, flavored and portion milks, meal kits and fresh fruit. All products are packed in reusable glass bottles that are picked up, cleaned and reused.
