Series of Four Training Workshops Begins January 15
The Longmont YMCA is hosting its 6th Annual Indoor Fun Triathlon on April 4, 2009. The objective of this Triathlon is to help people make a long term commitment to healthy structured exercise. This year the YMCA is also running a series of workshops to help prepare a rookie athlete for the race to be held on April 4; these workshops described at the end of this article. Or go to
www.longmontymca.org for more information.
The clinics are for beginners or almost beginners. They may also help for people who have done one or two Triathlons before but have not put a great deal of thought into their training.
The first clinic on January 15 will help you get going with a structured program of workouts, equipment advice and other tips. At the January 29 clinic there will be a review of the training programs including a Q&A session as well as an in-water Swim Clinic.
On February 13 there will be another review of the training program, a discussion of biking techniques and hands-on review of set up of the Spin bikes. Finally, on February 26, the discussion will center on the race itself, how to get the most out of yourself without pushing past your limits.
Volunteer workshop coaches include Simon Butterworth, a Triathlon coach with Fast Forward Sports in Boulder
www.fastforwardsports.net and a 10 time IronMan finisher; Diane Groff, cancer survivor and triathlete; Deborah Borgo, running coach and marathoner; and Sarah Engle, cyclist and triathlete.
You can register online at
www.longmontymca.org for any or all of these workshops; they are $15 each. Registration is also open for the Indoor Fun Triathlon.
