BOULDER, May 17, 2010 -- Greenhouse Scholars is proud to announce eight new Scholars who have been
invited to join the class of 2014. Outstanding academic performance, stellar
extracurricular activities along with dedicated community service, highlights
the achievement of these talented Colorado high school seniors. From over 130
applications, this year’s Greenhouse Scholars were selected through a rigorous
application process involving over 50 volunteers. These outstanding students
will be attending the following prestigious institutions: Stanford University,
Georgetown University, University of Denver, Colorado State University,
Colorado School of Mines, Kansas State University, Bryn Mawr College and
Dominican University.
Our local scholar comes
from Centaurus High School. Congratulations to Madeline Hatlen who is
recognized as a leader in her school and community, serving as President of
National Honors Society and Engineers without Borders as well as holding
additional leadership positions in theater and tennis. Madeline harnesses her
positive energy and uses it to help others through organizing a school wide
blood drive, hosting free tennis clinics for low income youth and mentoring
freshmen students. She manages all these activities while maintaining an
exceptional academic record. Madeline will be studying chemical engineering at
the Colorado School of Mines next year.
”College dropout rates among low-income and first-generation students from Colorado are as high as
90%. We’re combating this
challenge by selecting the highest-potential students from underpriviledged
communities – and giving them all the tools and support they need to not only graduate from college but also
become leaders in their communities. We’re honored to welcome this newest class
to our results-based program.”
At the same time, Greenhouse Scholars is also pleased to announce it’s first graduating class! Six young leaders
have successfully completed their undergraduate education and commitment to
program. These graduates are the first generation in their families to attend
and graduate from college.
Greenhouse Scholars provides comprehensive personal and financial support to high-performing,
under-resourced college students. Using a unique Whole Person© approach,
offering intellectual, academic, professional, and financial support,
Greenhouse Scholars is cultivating the next generation of community leaders.
Greenhouse Scholars was founded in 2005 by Pete Burridge, CEO of Greenhouse
Partners, a professional services firm specializing in branding. His goal is to
create a scholarship program that makes a broad social impact by helping
students to become community leaders. Greenhouse Scholars is a positive force
for education community and leadership. With an endowment and donors who
continue to support the program year after year, Greenhouse Scholars is focused
on developing a scholarship program that addresses the shortcomings in the
current financial aid support system. Currently, Greenhouse Scholars assists
college students from Colorado with a goal to provide opportunities beyond the
state in the future.
