When one customer tells you you’re doing a good job, it makes you feel pretty good. When more than 90% of them say you’re doing an outstanding job, you want to sing it from the rooftops, and that’s just what Meals on Wheels of Boulder is doing!
The March 2010 survey of home-delivered meal clients asked if home delivery meal services help them remain in their own homes longer, and 96% said “yes.” Ninety-four percent agreed they receive nutritious, well-balanced meals; 90% agreed the service contributes to their ability to maintain good health.
Of the survey respondents, 20% of clients are below the age of 59, 36% between 60-79 years, and 44% 80 years or older. Females comprise 60% and males 40% of clients responding. Sixty percent describe their condition as “long-term illness or disability.” More than half those responding to the survey report annual income of $20,000 or less.
“The growing number of individuals living at or below the poverty level in affluent Boulder continues to increase alarmingly every year,” according to Francea Phillips, executive director. “But we will not deny food to anyone who needs our home-delivered meal service, regardless of age or income.”
An April 2010 survey of volunteers yielded equally positive responses, asking for the level of satisfaction with their Meals on Wheels volunteer experience. Respondents gave the experience an average rating of 4.77 (scale of 1-5, with 5 = “very satisfied”). Staff cooperation and support earned an average rating of 4.8
“We continually strive to exceed the expectations of all our clients, volunteers and guests. We appreciate your suggestions, comments and support,” said Phillips. “We also serve lunch in Café Classico located in the West Boulder Senior Center every weekday 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM, just $4 for entrée, vegetable, salad, dessert and beverage. Anyone of any age in the community is welcome.”
