Jan 19th is MLK day and National Day of Service: http://usaservice.org/page/content/calltoservice/. I wanted to find a kid-friendly volunteer opportunity but couldn't find one so I'm creating one. I thought a trash pick-up would be good so I looked around Boulder for some trash filled areas and settled on Goose Creek Greenway - a bike path that I use. I called City of Boulder and they are supplying the trash bags, trash tongs and gloves. Our new president-elect has asked Americans to participate in this National Day of Service as part of his inaugural celebration. This will be one of many events happening around the nation. This is a positive way to welcome our new president and to show our kids the meaning of service. We will meet on Mapleton between 28th and 30th (across the street from the East Mapleton Ballfields, just East of Boulder Rock Club), have a snack (if someone wants to help and get some bagels donated from Moe's or somewhere else, let me know) and then pick up trash on the Greenway. Bring water, more snacks if needed, strollers for little-little ones and be sure to wear clothes that can get wet or muddy.

What a great morning! The kids (and adults) had a great time cleaning up the Goose Creek Greenway and learned about public service and volunteering. Thanks Courtney!!
