Project Homecoming earns Spirit of the Community, Partnership/Collaboration Award

Project Homecoming, a collaboration between Meals on Wheels of Boulder and Boulder Community Hospital, earned a 2011 Spirit of the Community award from Foothills United Way for their partnership.  Project Homecoming was created in 2007 to help patients make a smoother transition from hospital to home.  The project consists of five free home-delivered meals to anyone released from the hospital to their homes within Boulder Meals on Wheels service area, regardless of age, income, special dietary needs or reason for hospitalization.

In accepting the award, Meals on Wheels of Boulder executive director Francea Phillips said “We are thrilled to be partnered with Boulder Community Hospital in making this unique program available to our neighbors in Boulder and we are delighted to have a found a partner with such vision.”

Last year, Longmont Meals on Wheels formed a similar partnership with Longmont United Hospital and efforts are nearing completion to extend Project Homecoming to patients leaving the hospital to anywhere Meals on Wheels are delivered throughout Boulder County.

The award was presented at Foothills United Way annual LIVE UNITED 2011 event June 8th, 2011 at the Stadium Club at Folsom Field, to celebrate the collaborations, programs, initiatives and philanthropic spirit that are achieving success and changing lives in Boulder and Broomfield Counties.

Other Spirit of the Community award winners were John Tayer (individual), of Roche Colorado IBM Boulder (corporate).
