The No. 1 reason the Habitat For Humanity (HFH) ReStore exists is to generate funds to build safe and affordable homes for families in need here in the St. Vrain Valley. There are several other byproducts that also benefit the ReStore and St Vrain community such as jobs, place to donate, new and used items at rock-bottom prices and great place to volunteer.
The one issue that sometimes is overlooked is recycling. Each sale involves recycling, as it gives furniture, electrical, hardware and building materials a second life. There is also the traditional side of recycling that not only keeps items out of the landfill but provides more funding to Habitat for Humanity.
While this program has been going on for an extended period, detailed statistics have only been recorded since June of 2012. Since that date, the ReStore announced on Jan. 8 that it has recycled over 750,000 pounds of clothing, books, metal, plastic and shoes. Handling all of these recyclable goods is only possible through the partnerships that have been established with several vendors and recycling companies.
The HFH ReStore of St. Vrain Valley is at 1351 Sherman Drive in Longmont. Contact the ReStore manager Andy McClure at 303-776-3334 or restore@stvrainhfh.org.
