Westminster, Colorado members of the Colorado Association of Family, Career and Consumer Leaders of America help the community and are planning to attend State Conference.

FCCLA: The ultimate leadership experience is a dynamic and effective national student organization that helps young men and women become leaders and address important personal, family, work, and social issues through Family and Consumer Science Education. FCCLA has more than 220,000 members and nearly 7,000 chapters from 50 state associations and the District of Colombia, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. The organization has involved more than 10 million youths since 1945.

Emma Marlow (Class of 2015) and Delaney McCutcheon (2014’) are participating in the Chapter Service Manual Project. The two gators are leading the local chapter to give back to their community while incorporating the school and local community. FCCLA members are helping out the people in their community that are less fortunate and have no other way of getting help. So far they have held a sock drive in December to give new socks to the homeless for the winter, hosted a party called the ‘Souper Bowl’ during which teenagers made fleece blankets and soup for the homeless.  In addition, Marlow and McCutcheon have made an informational brochure on tips to getting a job, and put it on their school’s website.  They are currently collecting professional clothing and giving them to the Growing Home to help people prepare for job interviews and professional employment. “As a Chapter we feel as though we are really making a difference.” States Izzy Padgett, chapter president.

Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America is unique among youth organizations because its program is planned and run by student members. It is the only career and technical student organization with the family as its central focus. Participation in national programs and chapter activities helps members become strong leaders in their families, careers, and communities.

The SLHS gators will now take this project on to the State Leadership Conference where they will compete with teams all over Colorado.
