Volunteers to Deliver Holiday Fruit Baskets to Hundreds of Older Adults

On Saturday, December 11, over 175 CareConnect volunteers will continue a long-standing holiday tradition as they deliver Holiday Fruit Baskets to 900 low-income, homebound seniors and people living with disabilities throughout the communities of Boulder County.

According to Boulder County Aging Services Division, 20% of adults over the age of 55 in Boulder County live below the federal poverty level of $15,000 per year. Holiday Fruit Baskets provide a nutritious gift and a friendly visit for many of these isolated community members.

“We have experienced increased requests for services from clients struggling to make ends meet,” says Maureen Ewing, CareConnect Executive Director. “Many of our clients must choose between groceries, medication and paying bills. The Holiday Fruit Basket delivery is a wonderful opportunity to reach our many forgotten neighbors who might not receive any holiday gifts or visitors.”

The Holiday Fruit Baskets offer more than the gift of good nutrition. For both volunteers and recipients it is a wonderful chance to share the joys of the winter season. Many of the volunteers have made this event part of their annual holiday rituals and look forward to it as much as the recipients.

This wonderful tradition continues this year with two starting locations: Calvary Bible Church in Boulder, located at 3245 Kalmia Avenue; and the Longmont Senior Center, located at 910 Longs Peak Avenue. The beautiful fruit baskets are graciously donated by Volunteers of America, Colorado Branch.
