Zonta Foothills Club of Boulder County and Zonta Foothills Foundation have awarded $12,875 to nine Boulder County organizations and one CU scholarship fund. In addition, $6,108 has been awarded to international efforts to advance the status of women. Zonta Foothills club and Foundation are dedicated to promoting the health, education, safety and ecomonic well-being of women and girls around the world. These funds are raised and distributed through purely voluntary efforts, with no administrative costs by dedicated women in Boulder County.
Several grants were made to porgrams supported through Zonta Internatioonal, suppported by the more than 1,800 Zonta clubs around the world, and implemented in conjunction with various United Nations agencies, including:
1. Promoting sare cities in Guatemala City and San Salvador
2. Preventing mother to child transmission of HIV/AIDS in Rwanda
3. Reducing obstetric fistula, (a debilitation birthing injury prevented by medical intervention during severe births, especially in very young mothers), in Liberia.
Work to prevent violence against women in Cambodia, Egypt, and Syria is supported through Zonta International's joint programs:
1. The Zonta Young Women in Public Affairs program that provides a competitive financial award to high school women who are dedicated to volunteerism and advancing the status of women.
2. The Amelia Earhart Fellowshup for women pursueing PhD degrees in aerospace and engineering
3. The Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship that provides financial support to women who are pursuing undergraduate degrees in business management overcome gender barriers from the classroom to the boardroom.
