Great Horned Owl Mom and Baby

Momma Great Horned Owl is feeding her three babies and herself with parts of a rabbit that she caught. One of the babies is evidently more interested in what the photographer is doing than in eating! The mom is an excellent hunter and takes wonderful care of her babies, staying nearby to keep an ever watchful eye on the nest and her little ones. These babies are getting bigger and as night falls, they become active, flapping their wings and hopping about in the nest Within a week or two they will fledge the nest, but momma will still keep feeding them until they're ready to fend for themselves.
