"some" years ago, Arlo Guthrie performed Alice's Restaurant for the first time. It was the main evening concert, Saturday night I think. That afternoon, in the style of the Newport Folk Festival, he gave a "workshop." His idea of a workshop was to play for a small group (75?) for about an hour, including Alice's Restaurant BEFORE the famously recorded "first" performance. I was lucky enough to be there, to have taken a picture, and to have given it to my ex wife so that 40 years later she could loan it to me to scan.

Arlo, Newport Folk Festival, at a workshop of about 100 of us (maybe 75).  Judy Collins was in the audience.  Arlo played "Alice's..." and then, that night, at the BIG show, he announced that he was going to play it for the first time publicly <G>  I was very lucky to be there, and lucky that Jan Zeff, my ex-wife, saved the photo I gave her as a gift, loaning it back to me to scan it.
