"An Affair to Remember" lives up to its name

Flash back to the 1950's where the times were hopping with swing dancing, poodle skirts and leather jackets. Jeremy Bloom's Wish of a Lifetime (JBWOL) hosted "An Affair to Remember Sock Hop 2010" on Oct. 16 in both Denver and Boulder. The event was in celebration of founder, Jeremy Bloom's grandmother Donna Wheeler's 85th Birthday.

JBWOL and Brookdale Senior Living sponsored the free event for seniors 65 years and older. The event was designed as an opportunity for seniors to get out and about and enjoy themselves. The afternoon was filled with music, dancing and food.

Ten lucky seniors were randomly selected to receive makeovers prior to the event provided by Amanda Cameron and Ali Austin, who flew in from California. They were all dolled up just in time for the dancing to start.

In Denver, Swing Unlimited provided entertainment throughout the afternoon. The United States Air Force showed up to dance with the seniors. Even Elvis and Marilyn Monroe made a surprise appearance and the seniors were so excited to see the stars there.

Root beer floats were served and the ice cream was donated from Sweet Action Ice Cream.

When seniors arrived, they were pinned with boutonnieres from Fleur Décor and Lifetouch photography was on site to take photographs that were given to them at the end of the night. Seniors in attendance also received special goodie bags.
It was a different scene in Boulder with a 15-piece band, "All Star Jazz," providing entertainment. It was a more elegant formal affair with a chocolate fountain, which was a big hit with the seniors. The seniors were able to socialize and relax while listening to the band play. There was one senior who had her dancing shoes on the whole time and tried to get everyone grooving to the beat.

The event was a success at both locations and lived up to its name, an affair to remember.

Georgia B., one of the seniors in attendance at the Denver location, wrote a thank you note saying how much she enjoyed the event.
"Thank you so much for a fabulous day," she wrote.
