Boulder Flatirons Rotary honors Justice High School juniors

The Rotary Club of Boulder Flatirons honored two juniors from Justice High School with the first club scholarships awarded in the club’s ten year history. Juanita Suarez and Nancy Cano each received $500 toward their participation in the Colorado College Summer Scholars program in Colorado Springs. Both are exceptional students and active in extracurricular activities such as the cheer/dance team and the tennis team. Juanita is the daughter of Maria Martinez. Nancy is the daughter of Jose and Martha Cano. Justice High School is a charter school in the Boulder Valley School District. Its mission is to provide year round college prep education for all enrolled Boulder Valley and St. Vrain Valley students. JHS targets students who are at risk due to being chronically truant, expelled, dropouts, or involved in the criminal justice system. Boulder Flatirons Rotary Club was chartered in 1997 and currently has 40 members. Among its ongoing projects is support of Justice High School, Meals on Wheels of Boulder, the Parenting Place and Attention Homes -- all in Boulder, as well as a hearing screening project in Mante, Mexico, and water projects in India, Rwanda and Ecuador. Members meet weekly on Wednesday mornings at East Boulder Senior Center. For more information about the club, visit www.boulderflatironsrotary.org. Information about other clubs in this area will be found at www.rotary5450.org.
