Boy Scout "Scout Show" not just for Scouts!

DENVER, COLO – The Boy Scouts of America, Denver Area Council are preparing for the annual Scout Show to be held on April 27, 2013, 10am to 4pm at the National Western Stock Show Complex.  Make sure you get this great family outing on your calendar.  The Scout Show is a tremendous opportunity for the public to see what Scouting is all about, with hands-on activities and great prizes! The Scout Show is an interactive event in which Scouts and Scouting units can showcase what Scouting has to offer to the youth of our community. There will be more than 200 booths to visit, each offering an activity, a game or a “hands-on” experience.  The possibilities are endless - you could climb to the roof of the arena, cross a rope bridge, catch a trout, experience camp cooking, paddle a canoe, give blood or just enjoy the entertainment that will be hosted throughout the day.  There are activities for all ages.

Scouting groups from around the Denver metro area plan fun activities for this event, and many local businesses host booths with food, drinks and items for sale.  The Scout Show provides inexpensive entertainment for the whole family and is open to the public.  Stop in for a visit and you’ll end up spending the

day!  Cost to enter for the event is $10 for the entire family, and up to $5 of that can go to your local Scouting Unit. Public is welcome to come and attend the event.

This year the Denver Area Council will be celebrating its 100 year Anniversary. For 100 years, the Boy Scouts of America, Denver Area Council has created a strong foundation of leadership, service, and community for millions of Denver's youth. Through A Year of Celebration, we celebrate this legacy and commit ourselves to inspire and prepare future generations. Our 100th anniversary represents much more than a date on the calendar. It represents an important milestone around which to reintroduce Scouting to Denver and to celebrate our rich heritage and to reinforce the important role Scouting will play in shaping our community's future.

Scouting is composed of three different developmental programs to meet the needs of the youth in your area. The Cub Scouts has family and neighborhood based program for 1st - 5th grad

e boys. Cub Scouting combines outdoor activities, sports, academics and more, in a fun and exciting program that helps families teach ideals such as honesty, good citizenship and respect. The Boy Scouts is for boys ages 11-18 and teaches them life skills. Venturing is for boys and girls ages 14-21 and teaches them leadership skills through high adventure activities. Scouts explore a variety of new interests and activities with other youth their age.

In 2012, the Scout Show had more than 15,000 people come through the doors at National Western, and we are hoping on an even bigger turn out this year. Local Packs, Troops, and Crews are canvassing the Denver Metro Area Selling Camp Cards, which include a ticket for the family to attend Scout Show. Of the $10 cost for a Camp Card, up to $5 of that can go to the Scouting Units at your local schools, and churches to help send

a boy to camp this summer.

To purchase a ticket to the event along with discounts to local area stores, you can show up at the National Western Complex ticket booth, or contact Scot Fuller at scot.fuller@scouting.org to ensure that some of the proceeds from the sale go towards the Scouting Units at your local church or school.
