For 15 years Boulder nonprofit Project AnimalAid has been “healing the planet one animal at a time”.  In that time we have rescued over 100 TONS of medical equipment and supplies from the landfills and repurposed it by sending it to animal welfare organizations around the world.

We currently partner with over 125 organizations in over 40 countries such as Tanzania, India, Belize, Greenland, Chile, Romania, and the United States. The supplies that we send help animals of all sizes and kinds, from squirrels at the Nebraska Wildlife Rehab Center to elephants at the Global Sanctuary for Elephants in Brazil!

2023 was our biggest year ever, shipping 24 tons of life saving supplies (the equivalent of nine elephants) to organizations that are desperate for help. We currently have a waitlist of 33 organizations hoping to partner with Project AnimalAid.

Project AnimalAid was started by Boulder veterinarian Candy Brad in 2009 when, while traveling the world, she saw the desperate need by local veterinarians for basic supplies and equipment to treat the animals in their care. She also knew that back home veterinary and human hospitals frequently had excess inventory that they had no need for. With a passion for sustainability and animals, she started Project AnimalAid from her garage, sending off just a few boxes of supplies every week.

Here is what Executive Director, Meghan Curtis, has to say about the work of Project AnimalAid, “With the dual mission to enable animal welfare non-profits to provide quality veterinary care to animals in need and to keep valuable veterinary products out of the landfill, Project AnimalAid provides a valuable service that heals wounds, provides comfort and saves lives”.

Project AnimalAid will be holding its annual benefit, Tales for Tails, on May 11th at the Boulder JCC.
