On Oct. 14, families, friends and loved ones can participate in an inaugural fundraising event by dining at the California Pizza Kitchen in Cherry Creek. CPK will donate 20 percent of every ticket directly to the Lupus
Foundation of Colorado.

In order to donate the 20 percent, print out the event flyer from the Web site, www.lupuscolorado.org, and give it to your server. That’s it. Print. Eat. Donate.

Participants are not expected to give any extra money. CPK is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and will accept reservations. The fundraising event will be going all day, so stop in for
lunch, happy hour and/or dinner.

About the Lupus Foundation of Colorado

The Lupus Foundation of Colorado is the only organization directly serving those diagnosed with Lupus in Colorado. The LFC was established in 1972 in order to provide support, education and training to everyone that is affected by the disease. Their
mission is to significantly improve the quality of life for people living with
Lupus by advancing community education and awareness; providing patient and
family services; promoting research for prevention, early diagnosis, effective
treatment and discovery of a cure for the disease; and by advocating for
patients, family and the community. The LFC offers things like a bi monthly
newsletter, educational programs, emergency financial assistance, support
services, special events and more.

About Lupus

Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease that causes inflammation of various parts of the body, such as skin, joints, blood and kidneys. In an autoimmune disease, such as Lupus, the immune system fails to
tell the difference between foreign substances (antigens) and it’s own cells
and tissues. The immune system forms antibodies (special protein substances
made by the body to defend against bacteria and other foreign substances) that
attack healthy tissues and organs.

Lupus is more prevalent than AIDS, sickle cell anemia, muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis and cystic fibrosis COMBINED. It is estimated that more than
one million Americans have been diagnosed with Lupus, 90 percent of whom are
women.

There is no known cause and still no cure. The disease can range from mild to life threatening. About 20,000 Americans die from Lupus every year.
