How to build a shelter for your dog using dog house plans

So you love your dog and would like to build him a dog house? Well, don't consider it a hectic and time consuming project because the whole task is actually very simple. It is best that you start working on your new dog house in the the summers so the construction is finished by the time the weather changes and it starts getting colder. It is important to give your pet his own house where he feels safe and comfortable.

There are many different dog house plans available for your dog house. Some dog house plans even touch upon minute details such as roofing options, flooring options, exteriors and electrical and lighting options. Taking care of all these factors makes your pet comfortable in his new home, and keeps him safe and protected even in extreme weather conditions.

If you are interested in building a dog house from wood, there are a few simple tools along with wood that should get you started.

You need to have the following supplies before starting:

· Pressure treated boards: Quantity: 2, size: 2''x 4'' x 8'.

· Exterior grade plywood sheet: Quantity: 1, size: 4 ft x 8 ft, 5/8'' thick.

· Untreated boards: Quantity: 2, size: 2''x 4''x 8'.

· Galvanized deck screws: Quantity: 1 box, size: 1-5/8''.

· Composite roof shingles: Quantity: 1 bundle.

· Dry/ wet roof cement : Quantity: 1 tube

Apart from the supplies, you also need some easy tools like:

· Hammer

· Circular saw or table saw

· Measuring tape

· Drill

· Pencil or pen

· Caulking gun

When you start construction of a dog house, you need to ensure that it is spacious enough for the dog to feel comfortable inside. It has to be big enough for the dog to turn around and small and cozy enough to keep him heated. If possible, you should raise the floor a little bit off the ground to help provide insulation from the cold.

· First of all, construct the foundation of the house. Use pressure-treated wood for the house base.

· This wood contains contains harmful toxins; don't let your dog chew on it.

· Nail the base together using penny nails.

· Before you start nailing randomly, cut out all the wood. Make sure roof and the wall is cut at the same time.

· After proper measurement, cut out the wood to confirm that it fits.

· Attach the frames to the base and construct roof frames.

· Use plywood piece for roof and walls. Attach it and start shingling the roof with dry/wet cement or use nails.

· Construct roof by making one side larger than the other. Use screws for attaching them.

Once the house is complete, paint it with waterproof paint for protecting it from damage.
