No Waiting for Superman Here -- Superior Elementary Raises $27,600 at Annual Fall Fling

Superior Elementary Raises $27,600 at Annual Fall Fling
Annual PTA-Sponsored Event Will Fund Educational Enrichment at the School

Superior, Colo., October 14, 2010 – In an example of how PTAs at Boulder Valley School District schools are stepping up to support their fund-strapped schools, Superior Elementary (SES) is pleased to announce that it raised more than $27,600 at its Fall Fling event, held Friday, Sept. 24 at the school. This is a 30% increase over last year’s Fall Fling.

The money raised will fund a variety of educational enrichment activities, including staff development, teacher grants, field trips, extra-curricular activities like the Chess Club and the Summer Reading program, classroom equipment like document cameras and spelling books, and covering basics like copier paper.

The support of our community means so much to us in these challenging financial times,” said Mary Hausermann, principal at Superior Elementary. “We are able to continue to offer extracurricular activities, field trips and professional development opportunities as a result.”

The money was raised through bids from more than 130 donated silent auction items – which included everything from Broncos tickets to art created by students – traditional carnival games like a Cake Walk, and raffles for items like an iPad and special student events like ‘Principal for a Day.’ Carnival games like the Pie Toss and Dunk Tank featured teachers volunteering to get the pies in the face and plunges into cold water.

It took more than 250 volunteer hours – from more than 50% of SES families – to pull off this successful fund-raising event, which was attended by nearly 450 SES families.

“We are blessed with a very active and engaged PTA at Superior Elementary,” said Kari Johnson, President of Superior Elementary PTA. “Even in this economy, our community of parents is dedicated to this school and our kids. It is an inspiration.”
