Getting into photography competitions are a nice manner of improving your skills as a photographer. There also are nice ways that of making additional money if you win and will facilitate to build your name as a great photographer. However many pictures fail to meet the grade as a result of of easy things.

1.)Be constantly searching for competitions. You never apprehend when they might turn up. You'll see them advertised in shopping malls, mentioned in magazines, promoted on product packaging and publicized on television and radio.

2.)Lighting - obtaining the lighting right will mean the difference between and image that looks uninteresting or flat and an image that actually punches out at the viewer. Attempt to make attention-grabbing highlights, shadows and contrast. Several techniques can be used like flash, in-fill flash, studio lighting (will be improvised familiar with lamps), back lighting, selecting the proper time of day (there are occasions of day referred to as the "golden hour" or "magic hour" at the start or end of the day where the sunshine is softer and the colours additional intense / interesting. As an example the center of the day isn't perpetually the best time to shoot landscapes though this is often not a hard and fast rule. Some portraits in harsh sunlight can benefit from flash, lightening up harsh shadows and providing highlights.

3.)Horizon - a great approach to ruin a probably winning photograph is to possess the horizon line slightly off. Rotate and crop your photograph using Photoshop or another editing program to create positive your horizon is horizontal. This is not a onerous and quick rule however it can build a photograph a lot of pleasant / natural to appear at without the viewer being distracted.
Remember that the judges don't seem to be wanting for you to duplicate the previous winners, they are trying for individuality, creativity and great technical aspects. Photograph whatever you want, however do it well. Study the greats, practice and follow some more. Good luck.
