CPAC/WWA to Merge Organizations

The Colorado Photographic Arts Center and Working With Artists – Denver’s two most established non-profit photographic organizations – are merging. This effort will combine the strengths and vision of these two groups to create a vibrant center for photographic exhibitions and education comparable to any of the most influential contemporary art spaces in the country.

This merger unites two established photography agencies to form a highly visible entity that will provide a much-needed destination for this region’s underserved photo community. Both organizations bring tangible benefits to the other. There is an underlying need for a stable non-profit community-oriented space dedicated to the appreciation and learning of photography. This endeavor promises to fill that role in ways that the two separate organizations never could. It will benefit the existing photographic culture by nurturing new talent, expanding concepts, generating skills, peaking interest, and contributing to a sustainable market for collectors and artists.

CPAC and WWA will combine operations at the Working With Artists’ Belmar facility, 445 South Saulsbury, Lakewood, CO 80226. The combined organization will be known as the Colorado Photographic Arts Center. For the immediate future, Working With Artists will be the umbrella name for classes and workshops at the Center.

The first celebration of this merger is a collaborative Members' Exhibition entitled "Merge." This juried exhibition runs August 5 - September 17, 2011 with an opening reception held Friday, August 12 from 6-9p at FLASH Gallery.

History of each organization:

Working with Artists:

Established as a Colorado corporation in August of 2001, Working With Artists has been running year-round programs in fine art photography continuously since its inception. The school received nonprofit status as an educational organization in January 2002. In December of 2005 WWA expanded programming by adding an exhibition space at its Belmar location.

Colorado Photographic Arts Center:

Founded in Denver in 1963, the Center was the first venue in the region to foster the art of fine art photography. From 1998 until the end of 2005, CPAC had a permanent gallery space in Denver’s Highland district. During this time, the Center organized nearly 60 exhibits and numerous lectures, seminars, and artists’ talks. A center without walls since 2006, CPAC holds to its artistic and educational goals and has continued to offer exhibits, reviews, and presentations by nationally known and local photographers.
