FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Local volunteers travel to Washington, D.C., to meet with Congress about climate policy.
WASHINGTON, D.C., June 10-13, 2023 — Climate-concerned citizens from Boulder, Colorado will travel to Washington, D.C., this month to talk to Congressional leaders about policy that will reduce carbon pollution.
On Tuesday, June 13, representatives from the Boulder, Colorado chapter of Citizens’ Climate Lobby (CCL) will join volunteers from across the U.S. to advocate for climate solutions.
During their day on Capitol Hill, Boulder, Colorado will meet with the offices of Rep. Joe Neguse, Senator Bennet, and Senator Hickenlooper, volunteers will attend CCL’s international 2023 Climate Lobbying Reboot June Conference, where they will hear from inspirational speakers such as Dream.org Green for All National Campaign Director Jameka Hodnett, Dean of The Fletcher School at Tufts University Rachel Kyte and Ambassador Francis Rooney who was the Republican representative for Florida’s 19th Congressional district from 2017 to 2021.
“I first lobbied in November 2019 when I began to feel that the federal government really needed to hear more from citizens on the importance of effective climate change legislation. I'm headed back to DC this year because while some important progress has been made since 2019, Congress still needs to hear that we need more action on climate to meet our Paris Climate Accord commitments." said Aron Hoffman from the Boulder, Colorado CCL chapter.
Citizens’ Climate Lobby is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that brings together volunteers from across the political spectrum to advocate for legislation to help solve the climate crisis. Volunteers meet regularly with their members of Congress to ask them to support federal policy to lower the heat-trapping emissions altering and polluting our climate.
Rep. Joe Neuse recently introduced the SOLAR Edge Act, a bill works to incentivize residential solar installation and long-term job growth in the solar industry. “CCL volunteers from both sides of the aisle consistently contact Rep Joe
Neguse, Senator Bennett, and Senator Hickenlooper to ask for climate action,” said David Kline, a group leader with the Boulder, Colorado CCL chapter. “Our state already sees impacts from a warming climate: we have had severe drought. Our leaders must support policy to reduce carbon emissions with the speed needed.”
Although the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) reported an increase in atmospheric levels of carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide in 2022,
a clean energy transition is swiftly happening in the U.S.
Just three months after the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act, 100,000 climate-friendly jobs were created in the U.S., and families that take advantage of clean energy and electric vehicle tax credits from the bill are set to save more than $1,000 per year.
Democratic Gov. Jared Polis signed a series of bills that allocate as much as $120 million in state tax credits for heat pumps, electric vehicles, and even electric lawn equipment, like lawn mowers and leaf blowers.
“We are heading in the right direction,” said David Kline. “But it’s important we push for more.”
