SVP Boulder County announces new CEO, Joshua Silberstein

Boulder (March 25, 2020) – Social Venture Partners (SVP) Boulder County has hired Joshua Silberstein as its CEO, effective April 6, 2020.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Josh, whom we consider an ideal match with our ‘culture add’ approach to building out and developing our team,” says Claire Clurman, Chair of SVP Boulder County’s Board of Directors. “We’re confident in his ability to deepen and expand on our mission and goals in innovative ways – from his natural spirit of connection and compassion, and his personal sense of urgency to help address inequities across Boulder County, to his broad understanding of our community and his demonstrated success as a trusted, accessible leader.”

As an experienced nonprofit executive with extensive leadership, fundraising, project development, and financial management experience, Josh gets the challenges and opportunities of running a nonprofit like SVP Boulder County – and the profound significance of our relationships with both the local nonprofit sector and our philanthropically minded Partners.

In the past decade alone, Josh served – among other positions – as Chair of the Board of Shambhala USA, overseeing global activities and assets, including a budget of gross annual revenue of $18M. Shambhala is a cultural and educational nonprofit that operates 200 locations comprising 14K members in 50 countries. Josh earned a bachelor’s degree at St. John’s College in Annapolis, majoring in Philosophy and History of Mathematics, and minoring in Languages and Laboratory Sciences.

“SVP Boulder County is poised for its next phase of success, guided by a new strategic plan, and given our county’s robust environment for both nonprofits and for-profit businesses to thrive,” says Josh. “While our current focus should be on supporting the ability – and strengthening the capacity – of our nonprofit participants to minimize the impact of the COVID-19 crisis, I believe my proven abilities to network, build partnerships, and manage a streamlined organization – all while infusing the work environment with joy – will also help us come together in new ways, to grow, and to ensure a forward-thinking nonprofit sector well beyond these challenging times."

Josh concludes, “What draws me to this role is a passion for nonprofits, knowing that a community that supports its nonprofits is stronger and more resilient. My wife and I have lived in Boulder for nearly 16 years, and we want our county to continue to be vibrant and healthy for our children.”

Joshua will succeed Jennie Arbogash, who served as CEO with dedication and commitment for the past 12 years, making her one of the longest tenured executives in the SVP International network. “We’re deeply grateful for Jennie’s accomplishments, supporting several hundred nonprofit organizations, doubling our number of philanthropically minded Partners, and forging strong, meaningful partnerships that bring us closer to an equitable, thriving Boulder County,” says Claire Clurman, Chair of SVP Boulder County’s Board of Directors.

Jennie will remain involved with SVP Boulder County as a donor and volunteer, explaining “Josh exhibits the integrity and quality Boulder County has come to expect from SVP, and I’m excited to support his ideas for expanding SVP’s impact locally.”
