Story Songs For 9th to 12th Grade

This Spring BackStory Theatre’s Make Believe and Beyond classes will be exploring the stories that inspired some of our favorite songs. Students will choose a song and then create the story that may have inspired that song. The goal is not to exactly retell the story from the song but to explore what may have inspired the song. There’s no limit to what may have inspired these great songs.

Students may choose to explore the adventures of the little spider that gave us The Itsy Bitsy Spider. Or maybe Old Lady Leary's cow will tell her story. Perhaps we will see Major Tom’s Space Oddity or how Johnny won when The Devil Went Down to Georgia.

During the class, students will choose what character they want to be; work with the other members of the class to write the script; and rehearse their play. The class will conclude with a performance of the show they created.
