Dreamers participate in enlightening and engaging week of activities at CU.

♪School’s out for summer♪! And while most students are lazing around indoors, burning out in front of the TV playing video games, Dreamers in the “I Have a Dream” high-school drop-out prevention program are getting psyched for a jam-packed week full of activities planned at CU from June 9th-13th. Dr. Kristin Lopez (from the Colorado Diversity Initiative in Science, Math and Engineering) and Janel Chin (AmeriCorps VISTA member from the Institute for Ethical and Civic Engagement) and have created an inspirational, educational and infinitely entertaining week for the Dreamers to accent the academic and social enrichment goals of the program.

Great Photo Opportunities from 10am to 3pm

In the afternoon, the Colorado Space Grant Program will host the action-packed Lego Capsule Challenge, a 2-story “light bulb-drop” competition, in the Discovery Learning Center.
Tuesday: Dreamers will participate in a hands-on DNA science workshop in the morning and then tour the Dal Ward Athletic Center in the afternoon.
Wednesday: Dreamers will participate in a workshop with JILA Physics scientists followed by a riveting “Space Storm” show at Fiske Planetarium to explore close up what other students can only see from a distance in the night sky.
Thursday: In the morning, Dreamers will have a private backstage tour of the Shakespeare festival and afterwards, participate in another tour put on by Student Outreach Retention Center for Equity that will highlight various college resources and majors available to their demographic.
Friday: Dreamers will tour the Engineering Integrated Teaching and Learning Laboratory and finish with an exhilarating trip to Boulder Reservoir.

“’CU Week’ is a wonderful opportunity for our Dreamers to become familiarized with the university setting, as well as providing them with exciting educational activities during the summer,” says CEO Lori Canova.
