Share a Gift - 2 BVSD youth volunteers clean 100+ bikes for Share a Gift-2014

Share-A-Gift is a local 501(c)3 nondenominational organization. Since 1972, it has distributed new and gently used toys, games, to the parents of nearly 3,000 children up to age 14 to enable them to brighten their kids' holidays. Share-A-Gift is also the local representative for Toys-For-Tots, so toys which are donated in the Boulder Valley are distributed here. The gifts are distributes at a Toy Shop at which parents may choose one new gift and miscellaneous used toys per child. Each family may have one major gift, and bicycles are the most popular choice. Every fall Share-A-Gift collects outgrown bicycles from local elementary schools. One afternoon in December, volunteers such as Rose and Anna clean each bike before bike mechanics from local shops repair and confirm that the bikes are safe. A helmet is given with each bike.

Volunteers Anna Sciacca who is an 8th grader at a BVSD Middle School and Rose Goodman who is a Sophomore at a BVSD High School helped to clean donated bikes on Sunday 12-7-2014 for the Share a Gift program (SAG). Rose Goodman has been actively participating in this volunteer program since she was in 2nd grade when her elementary girl scout troop happened upon this wonderful community service program. Each of the last 9 years Rose has returned to SAG in December to help clean the donated bikes, even after her scout troop disband. This was Anna's first year to clean bikes and she also very much enjoyed her time cleaning bikes and is looking forward to returning next year "I liked getting my hands dirty and it feels good to help people".
