Hi Emerson,

My name is Amy and I’m a mom living in Fort Collins, attending the master’s program in System’s Engineering at CSU. I heard about your petitions before the election, and today I was able to read the article about you.

It’s very interesting to me the goal that you’ve put together and how motivated you are. I’m one of the approximately 16% of Coloradans who would also be happy to see the state secede, for reasons more related to our country’s incapability to respond meaningfully to climate change or make reparations for human rights abuses. Like you, I am also unusually motivated, and I believe that there may be a constitutional path.

I have a lot of questions. Are you still working on this effort? How many people have you connected with about it so far? Do you ever create events for people to discuss this idea more seriously? What have been the reactions been to this effort so far? Why is your mother against this idea? I imagine she’s probably similarly politically oriented, so I wonder if it would be such a nonstarter to her if she believed the plan featured a lot of well-supported ways to mitigate people’s understandable concerns.

I would be very curious to hear what your experiences have been since the petition was initiated and the news publication about you was published. If you could be interested, I would appreciate a chance to chat with you (and/or your mom) sometime to discuss these things. If nothing else, it has been refreshing to come across your story and I very much hope you can pursue your ambitions with diligence and in safety.

Please include me in any future communications about this effort. If there is any local group regularly organizing around this, I would like to meet them. Since you have no idea whether or not I’m a real person or whether the things I’m claiming are true, feel free to email me back at amy.hill@colostate.edu.

Regards,

Amy Hill
